Abstract Submission Instructions

Late News can be accepted until June 21, 2024. Please note that Late News received after June 5 will not be included in the digital proceedings.

Abstract Publication Options

All accepted abstracts will be included as submitted in the Device Research Conference Digest that will be distributed to all Conference attendees.

Authors now have two options for post-conference publication. These options are:

  1. Accepted abstract will be submitted for inclusion into the Proceedings of the 2024 Device Research Conference on IEEE Xplore as well as other Abstracting and Indexing (A&I) databases after the conference.

    OR

  2. Opt-out of after-conference submission to the IEEE Xplore Digital Library.

Note: You must choose either Option 1 or Option 2 at the time of abstract submission. If Option 1 is selected, acceptance of the IEEE copyright agreement through PDF eXpress will be required upon abstract acceptance.

All DRC abstract submitters are required to use one of the template formats provided below. Papers should be uploaded to PDF eXpress using the below templates to generate the final pdf.

Guidelines for abstract preparation are provided below and should be read carefully prior to preparing your abstract. All abstracts must be submitted electronically in PDF format using the web-based submission. Abstracts submitted to DRC may not be submitted to EMC; this is grounds for immediate rejection.

DRC provides a unique forum to report breaking news and embraces exciting device research breakthroughs submitted as Late News in the same abstract format as a regular submission.

Tips for Preparing a DRC Abstract

The submitted abstract will be used by the Technical Program Committee as the sole basis for acceptance of the paper for presentation. Thus, the abstract should clearly communicate the new and significant results that have been obtained. In addition, accepted abstracts will be reproduced exactly as submitted, including submission for inclusion in IEEE Xplore, if authors choose this publication option. (See important publishing note above.) Therefore, submitted abstracts should read like a short paper and be suitable for publication. Time and effort spent constructing a clear, concise and well-written abstract will maximize the chances of paper acceptance. New and significant work is a prerequisite for paper acceptance; previously published results will be rejected automatically.

Abstracts must clearly state:

  • The objective of the work
  • The results and accomplishments and their significance
  • The advancement over previous work

In addition, the figures should be very clear and well labeled. Abstracts with poor figures will be rejected.

Example abstracts from past DRCs can be downloaded below (PDF format).  Note that these do not necessarily follow the current abstract template but do model the type of content needed for a good DRC abstract. While unlikely, unusual abstract preparation questions should be forwarded to the DRC Conference Chairs at deviceresearchconference@gmail.com.

Format Guidelines

The format guidelines for Device Research Conference abstracts must be followed completely, including the required use of the abstract template (Word or LaTeX). Abstracts must consist of one page of text and one page of figures. Pages must be letter size (8.5 X 11 in.) with margins of 1 in. or 2.5 cm on all edges (note: no A4-sized paper submissions or changes to the 1 in. margins will be accepted!) and font size not less than 10 pt. The abstract must be converted to Adobe PDF format for electronic submission.

The Text page should include the authors' names, address, affiliation, telephone number, and email address. Figures should be referred to in the text and clearly labeled & captioned so that they can be understood independent of the Text page. All text embedded in the figures must be greater than 8 pt font size. References to prior work should be included at the bottom of the Text page and within the 1 in. page margins.

Submission Instructions

All abstracts must be submitted electronically using the web-based submission. Abstracts should be uploaded to IEEE’s pdf eXpress to generate the final pdf. You will also submit the required copyright agreement during this step. Additional instructions can be found below.

For consideration of your abstract, the following information must be entered on the website before your abstract is uploaded.

  • Name, organization, country, phone and email of the first author
  • Names, organizations, and emails of the co-authors
  • Email address of the corresponding author if other than the first author
  • Identification of the abstract as invited speaker or student paper
  • Assignment of abstract category based on the topics that are provided
  • Decision to publish your abstract in IEEE Xplore

Should you encounter problems at any point during the abstract submission process, please contact the DRC Conference Chairs at deviceresearchconference@gmail.com.

Submissions are considered final upon submission and every effort should be made to ensure that submission is correct the first time. Under rare and unusual circumstances, a revised abstract can be uploaded as a new submission, which will be accepted at the discretion of the Program Committee. Please email the DRC Conference Chairs at deviceresearchconference@gmail.com explaining the changes and give the Abstract ID number for the old and new submissions.

IEEE PDF eXpress

Accepted abstracts will be submitted for inclusion into the Proceedings of the 2024 Device Research Conference on IEEE Xplore as well as other Abstracting and Indexing (A&I) databases after the conference. Authors who wish to publish their abstract with IEEE must use PDF eXpress to ensure the PDF is Xplore compliant.
